We'd Have Heard About This Sooner If It Hadn't Been On PBS.

Of course, this is all over the place -- can someone at CBS fire Billy Packer now?

(Edit: Bad form on me, I forgot to credit: saw it first at Awful Announcing, and then Our Book of Scrap reminded me come morning time.)

It was a poor choice of words, but it's not disparaging to gay people. It would be like the teacher that got fired for saying his student was niggardly, which has nothing to do with race. My high school econ teacher used the term all the time when students appeared lethargic and uninterested.

If they're gonna fire him, they should fire him for being an insufferable dick. They won't fire him, at any rate. If you can get away with calling a black player a monkey on the air, you're pretty much bullet proof when it comes to slips of the tongue.

Gangsta, I know, but if we can't get CBS to tell Packer to ship out because his analysis stinks, then maybe a verbal slip-up would do?

One of the Deadpin commentariat called it akin to getting Capone for tax evasion -- but we'll still take it.

I feel you. I want him gone too, but I'd rather hear the CBS bigwigs say "Billy Packer sucks as an analyst so he's gone." I'll put it like this, if Jack Bauer dies I want it to be something major. An incredible explosion, or he gets done up Sony Corleone style. If he gets hit by a car I'm gonna be salty. But, I guess you can't always have your cake and eat it too.
