When You Wish Upon A Czar...

...makes no difference who you are, everything you recommend is dumb as hell...(cut singing)

National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley wants to establish a position to oversee the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, citing the need for a "war czar." He would prefer military personnel, but he's open to civilians.

Another firm rule of government bureaucracy: any time you establish a position with the title of "czar" somewhere in it, you have automatically rendered it useless and unnecessary. I thought we had someone to oversee the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan -- namely, the secretary of defense. As far as czars go, ask how well having a "drug czar" has gone for the War on Drugs.

Eventually, we will have the "Poverty Czar," an "Immigration Czar," the "Education Czar," -- everything designed so people actually appointed to tackle such issues in government don't actually have to do anything or propose any solutions.

Well, Czars in general have a pretty solid history...oh wait.
