That's David Carr's logic, inking a contract with the Panthers to be Jake Delhomme's backup.
It was hard to type that with a straight face. Let's put the over/under of Carr getting named the starter at 6 regular season games for all intents and purposes, given how poorly Delhomme played last season. Coach John Fox can say Jake is the starter all he likes; Delhomme is officially ON NOTICE with this signing -- put up or get dropped.
Carr went to Carolina for the lack of pressure -- he can get himself back together after being assaulted on a constant basis in Houston, plus, he lands a damn good chance at gaining a starting spot, and you can smell the QB controversy coming at Panthers camp. It's the best situation overall, because if he does become the starter, he has Steve Smith and Keyshawn Johnson as WRs, and a developing stud RB in DeAngelo Williams.
Stupid teams that should have offered better money and a starting job to Carr: Vikings, Chiefs, and Browns. Especially the damn Vikings. Better hope Tarvaris Jackson pans out.

Thanks for the update...here's hoping he finds his niche. I still feel like he could be a very solid QB behind, y'know, an actual O-line.
Agree. Carr is solid. Any number of teams could have used him. I feel like so many NFL GMs are morons.
Nastinchka - that's why I thought the Vikings were perfect. Good O-line, feature RB. Carolina lacks the feature RB right now, but Williams could get there.
Mini Me - and yet the morons remain employed.
kendavey - the reason you have all the draft emphasis is because drafting that high requires shelling out millions, thus the demand is already on the "what have you done for me lately?" not even a month after the player has been drafted.
The Panthers are totally BS'ing on this "backup" stuff -- there will be a competition between Delhomme and Carr come training camp.
I disagree. As a Panther fan, I much prefer Delhomme. If the offensive line actually stays healthy this year, Jake will be fine. 2 of the last 3 years he has been one of the top 5 QBs in the NFC by the end of the season.
i agree with swolestice and i too am a panthers fan. delhomme played bad because the offensive line was banged up and because the offense was too predictable. get off delhomme's cajones
