a letter to the ombudsman.

Mr. Solomon,

As a regular viewer of the WWL, I also happen to be a fan of yours, particularly for the way you smacked down everyone's least favorite crackhead alum of the U. for his Tony Romo comments (even though there was so much more you could have critiqued) and for your unheeded call for calm when everyone got revved up over T.O.'s faux-suicide attempt. However, I'm writing today to address a problem with ESPN's coverage that I believe desperately needs to be brought to your attention.

While watching last night's Ohio State-Wisconsin college basketball game, many of us noticed the unwillingness or inability to put one of the network's best assets on display as often as possible. When sideline reporter Erin Andrews was called upon to do one of her pieces, more often than not, viewers were treated simply to voice-overs over the game action, save one point in the second half where the camera was on her the whole time and when she interviewed OSU alum Michael Redd. I don't need to tell you that this is a highly questionable decision by the producers of the telecast.

This ought to be brought to the attention of the higher-ups at ESPN; Andrews is, as I mentioned before, one of the network's best and brightest, and she ought to be rewarded with the proper face time. We have to take the pleasure we can get out of broadcasts of college sports, especially when it seems ESPN would prefer to dilute Ms. Andrews' work by saddling her with a crew that includes either Dick Vitale or Paul Maguire.

Sincerely,

- C.

(P.S. Welcome Deadspinners and Mondesi's House guests; have a look around the place, won't you?)

How about asking networks for more and better screen time for women because they are good reporters and shouldn't always be relegated to sideline injury reports, not just because they have a nice ass?

As someone that shared with you the outrage that is herfootball.com, I'm a little disappointed. ;)

Let's see more of Ms. Andrews, whatever the reason...

kaz - I get your disappointment. The quality of Ms. Andrews' sideline reporting isn't in question (she does a minimum of crap ones), and she'd probably do decent play-by-play if given the chance.

Great letter. Where is the petition to sign?

Jack - none yet, we'll see how demand goes and if it's high enough, I may just go to Petition Online and fashion one in fancy, dignified language.

Hey, nice work on the Deadspin link.

I like the Label Cloud as well, although the presence of a "John Mayer" tag frightens me.

OMDQ - thanks; the Mayer tag comes from this post.

I offer advice to musicians whom I think can and ought to do better. There's still some hope.
